Valentines Day
What a farce Valentines Day is – just another excuse to prise money from our pockets. As you might have guessed – I don’t do Valentines Day – it’s a crock! Difficulty getting into a decent restaurant, paying over the odds for flowers – and the intense pressure so many of both sexes feel to please… And pay! Why do people bother!
Way back when I used to ‘partake’, because I didn’t know better and thought it meant a guaranteed lay, it caused me nothing but trouble. The unwanted card I received from an ex just after I got married, the psycho bitch who thought I should have spent more than I did, and went off her nut because I told her the value she had placed on herself was far from realistic, various arguments… Year in, year out it caused trouble. So I stopped – I stopped period, no cards, no flowers, no meal, no vacation, no nothing.
Ever since stopping to acknowledge the event ‘ it’s been on the ‘live with it’ list I’ve spelled out to each new woman that has come along since. Yes, I really do have a list of conditions that a woman has to agree with – plain, simple, this is me, I’m not going to change – if you can’t deal with any of it perhaps it’s best not to get involved with me. Harsh I know – but it has saved me no end of trouble – and makes it so much easier to get out of a relationship when someone tries to deviate from the ‘terms and conditions’.
Instead on Valentines day I just sit and sneer from the sidelines like this at the poor saps who have to live with the pressure and expense.
The bottom line is that if a couple love each other, why is such a show necessary?
