Geoff Holt arrives at Tortola

For anyone who’s seen our recent articles about Geoff Holt the quadriplegic sailor who recently set out to become the first quadriplegic to cross the Atlantic unassisted – we’re sure you’ll be pleased to know that Geoff and his team arrived safely in Tortola on the 7th of this month exactly one month after setting out-
The journey, hampered by poor winds, and various engine and generator problems, gives Geoff another major sailing achievement to add to his growing list. We salute him for this success, and wish him well with his future endeavours! No doubt we’ll be hearing of more in the future – Geoff is a fantastic ambassador both for disabled people, his sport and a truly inspirational guy – we can’t imagine this will be his last project! Geoff Holt sets sail…

Recently – I wrote a piece about Geoff Holt the quadriplegic sailor preparing to set out to be the first quadriplegic to sail the Atlantic unassisted. Well this morning he set out at 10am local time to do just that – and plans to arrive in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands in 17 days time. As well as the challenge of the expedition, this is a bit of an emotional journey for Geoff as it was in Tortola that Geoff had the accident that caused his disability in 1984.
I only met Geoff a couple of weeks ago – he’s a fantastic guy, great sense of humour, and has a warmth to him that leaves you feeling like you’ve known him for years…
Suffice it is to say that I wish Geoff and his team (personal assistant Susana and cameraman Digby) the best of luck and a safe journey across the pond!
